Title: Director of Talent Acquisition - Boston, MA

The Director of Talent Acquisition - Boston, MA will report to the Chief Operating Officer. In partnership with leadership, this person will be responsible for setting the direction of talent acquisition at Year Up to support the organization’s rapid growth and expansion across the country. From defining systems and processes to strategizing on how to scout and recruit the best talent, s/he will communicate with key stakeholders about Year Up’s recruitment strategies, goals and overall vision. In addition, the Director of Talent Acquisition will manage a growing National Talent Acquisition team, while partnering closely with local and regional HR representatives.

As an ideal candidate for this role, you are someone who brings a wealth of talent acquisition strategy and goal setting experience to the table.  You’ll be a seasoned leader with an understanding of how to build and scale teams, supporting the growth of a national organization. You are someone who understands not only full cycle recruiting, but how to design, communicate and execute on recruitment strategies and goals. Finally, strong applicants for this position will possess a genuine passion for Year Up’s mission and a strong belief in the potential of our young adults. Translating this passion and commitment to the work we do is critical to effectively attracting the top talent that will ultimately support Year Up’s growth, our students and our alumni.

The Director of Talent Acquisition - Boston, MA will also have the opportunity to interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.


Strategy and Communication

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and senior leadership to foster alignment between talent acquisition, business needs and organizational goals
  • Work cross functionally to develop and define diversity recruitment strategies
  • Partner with National Marketing team to create and communicate Year Up’s talent brand
  • Explore potential external opportunities, events and partnerships to further Year Up’s outreach, recruitment and scouting efforts
  • Manage all external recruiting agency relationships and vendors, such as LinkedIn and Indeed
  • Define key talent acquisition metrics, reporting goals and analyze data to assess effectiveness and make recommendations based on those findings
  • In partnership with leadership, provide direction on workforce planning, organizational forecasting, internal talent pipelining and career progression

Systems and Processes

  • Lead the refinement and development of backend recruitment systems in partnership with the National IT team
  • Support the communication of updates and changes to talent acquisition systems and business processes
  • Ensure that talent acquisition policies and practices adhere to employment law and regulations

Team Management & Support

  • Lead, mentor and develop National Talent Acquisition team
  • Lead team to ensure right level of partnership with hiring managers, successful execution of hiring plans and that we successfully deliver against commitments related to candidate experience
  • Serve as a source of support for regional recruiters and HR representatives at sites around the country, providing training, guidance and sharing best practices across sites
  • Support the professional development of team members, while also directly managing the hiring of new team members and identifying future talent acquisition needs
  • Create and communicate Talent Acquisition goals to the organization, while holding staff accountable to meeting measurable targets and goals, including but not limited to: time to hire, candidate experience, diversity metrics and quality of hire
  • Manage National Talent Acquisition budget, including negotiating fees with partners, reviewing contracts and identifying cost saving opportunities

Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as an advisor/mentor for a small number of current students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings


  • 6-7 years’ experience in HR and talent acquisition or related fields strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree; Advanced degree typical/preferred
  • Proven experience driving talent acquisition strategy and innovation in response to rapid organizational growth
  • Adept at workforce planning, forecasting and creating pipelining strategies
  • Subject matter expertise in sourcing and interviewing techniques
  • Experience developing technical recruitment systems and processes, with a particular focus in building out applicant tracking systems
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion with the skillsets needed to build, manage, & engage diverse pipelines of talent
  • Experience managing and leading recruiting for a national organization preferred
  • Successful track record of setting recruitment strategy and direction for regional hiring teams preferred
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with an ability to inspire others, garner buy in and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • A passion for working with urban young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up

The Professional Training Corps (PTC) is a community college based model that provides an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful workforce training. In this model, students are dual-enrolled in the community college and Year Up; technical skills are taught by college faculty, while Year Up staff provide professional skills and other wrap-around services. Lastly, our Employer Based Solutions are created in collaboration with employer partners; custom solutions are developed to meet critical business needs and solve for skills gap challenges in the marketplace.
